Groats are the whole, hull-less oat kernel.
These are often used to thicken and add texture to stews, soups and breads.
To make a delicious, thick porridge soak the Groats overnight then cook on a low heat for about 20 – 30 minutes.
Pinhead Oatmeal is made by cutting Groats into smaller pieces. This is the roughest grade of Oatmeal. Usually used for adding texture to foods such a sausages and stuffing mixes, fish and meat coatings and crumble toppings.

Medium Oatmeal is made by grinding the Groats more finely than for Pinhead Oatmeal, which results in the same thickness but with less oat definition.
